Chrome Postcards

Most cards made after around 1939 with a glossy paper surface are considered to be "chrome postcards." These postcards took over the market after being introduced by the Union Oil Company and sold in their service stations. The term "chrome" comes from the word is derived from the word "photochrome" and later "Kodachrome." It refers to a process used to make the postcards. These beautiful color photo postcards are generally the easiest collectable postcards to find for sale today. The production and sales of chrome postcards slowed down a bit during World War II due to supply shortages, but made a quick comeback after the war and were once again seen all over the roadside postcard racks.
