White Border Postcard Era

The "White Border Era" of postcards ran from approximately 1915-1930, and are named because of the white border that typically surrounds the front of the card. I've seen it written that the cards were designed with white borders in an effort to save ink, but I believe that a more likely explanation is that the postcards were made to resemble similar white borders found on photographs of the time.
